How to Manage Change
When things change, especially when they have been in effect for a long time, it can be difficult to adjust. Even when the change is seemingly positive and needed, it can cause stress and anxiety.
- Embrace change. Everything in business has changed. Doing things the same old way can be costly. Rather than having a negative view, try to keep emotions under control and strategically plan next steps.
- Start planning how you can successfully transition and incorporate new changes into your work life. Plan how your work day will look. What new skills or knowledge may be needed? Preplanning can keep you out of overwhelm and in control.
- Focus on the benefits. Look for the positive affect the change may have on you and your business. With change often comes opportunity that may not be obvious at first, but keeping an open mind and focusing on the possibilities can open up a whole new vision for your company.
- Develop a specific plan of action for applying changes. This is the execution phase. Identify people who can support your action plan. Get expert help, if needed. Commit to seeing the process through to the end.
“If your organization fails to make necessary and timely changes it will become more challenging for you to compete in the marketplace.” ~ Linda Coleman-Willis
